As I’m sure the entire world has seen, Paris suffered a great tragedy a couple weeks ago. But let’s not ignore the symbolism here...the world has been suffering this great tragedy for many, many years. You can agree or disagree with me, I don’t really care, but I think this is a most perfect representation of the state of institutional religion that I have ever seen. Old, dry, incorrect, pious, and dead mindsets are burning away. Falling under the weight of its own failure. No one set fire to it, this was just its natural end. So, let’s embrace the change that is coming, let’s have open minds to new ideas, and encourage those that have been marginalized to join in faith conversations. Let’s stop asking, what would Jesus do? That’s an old mindset. Instead let’s ask, who would Jesus love? Let the old, dead wood burn. Salvage your relics if you must. But also, let us renovate and begin to build new Kingdom practices where old, incorrect ones used to stand. Let’s rebuild on the actual foundation that Christ left us. End the abuse.
